Paul is a finance industry professional with nearly 20 years international experience across institutional fixed income markets, asset management and financial planning. Paul joined Barrister as a partner after repatriating to the United States in the summer of 2018.
In April 2019, Paul attained the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) designation upon completing the education, experience, ethical and examination requirements of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. Paul also passed the CFA level 1 exam in June 2018. Paul has passed financial industry regulatory exams and held registrations in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Singapore and the United States.
Paul graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a concentration in Finance. While at Penn, he played varsity football, was a 3-year letter winner and 2-time Ivy League Champion.
In the summer of 2000, Paul completed an internship in Fixed Income Sales and Trading with UBS in Stamford, CT. At the completion of the internship he was offered a permanent position and joined the bank after graduating the following summer. Upon completing UBS’s Graduate Training Program, he worked in the Fixed Income division as a bond trader, primarily international debt on the Yankee Bond desk. This role led to an international assignment in Singapore in 2004 where he focused on European and US credit trading. While in Singapore, Paul participated in the bank’s ASCENT program for fast-track talent development.
Paul relocated to London with UBS in early 2007, where he focused on trading Emerging Markets (EM) which included the debt of Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, the Middle East and Africa. He was recruited to join Goldman Sachs in 2009, which was rebuilding its EM credit trading business. He managed the EM credit desk in London at Goldman Sachs until 2014.
Paul relocated to Hong Kong in mid-2014 after being recruited to join the GEMM hedge fund at Brazilian investment bank BTG Pactual. While in Hong Kong, he oversaw investments as a portfolio manager and head of the fund’s Asia credit strategy. He interacted with the fund’s key institutional investors, detailing performance and investment strategies.
In 2016, Paul joined Standard Chartered Bank in Hong Kong as its Global Head of Flow Credit Trading. He oversaw the global reorganization of the business including extensive hiring and developing new trading lines in Hong Kong, Singapore, London and New York. He was in this role with Standard Chartered until his relocation back to the United States in 2018.
Paul has developed extensive global contacts in the financial markets, including fund managers, investors, analysts, banks, brokers and technologists. He has travelled extensively throughout his career for research and business development, highlights include: The Ivory Coast, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia and China.
Paul lives in Malvern, PA with his wife, Erica, a nurse, and four children. Along with his family, he leads an active lifestyle and enjoys regular exercise, travel, boating, wakeboarding, wake surfing, snow skiing and scuba diving.
